The flag of Tuvalu is set on a light blue background and features the Union Jack in the canton and nine five-pointed yellow stars at the fly side of the flag. The Union Jack is representative of the country's continuing links to the Commonwealth whilst the flag's nine stars each represent one of the islands of Tuvalu and are arranged on the flag in the way they sit geographically.
The flag of Tuvalu was officially adopted on 1 October 1978 as the country gained its independence.
The flag's ratio is 1:2.
