Australia Red Ensign flag
The Australian Red Ensign is a variant of the Australian National Flag with a red field replacing the blue field. The Australian Red Ensign has its roots in the 1901 Federal Flag Design Competition which asked for two entries - a flag for the Commonwealth Government and a flag for the merchant navy. The Flags Act 1953 specifies the Blue Ensign as the Australian National Flag and the Red Ensign as the merchant shipping flag.
