The flag of Bulgaria is a horizontal tricolour featuring the colours (from the top of the flag to the bottom of the flag) white, green and red.
Bulgaria had no flag during its time under Turkish rule. Upon becoming a principality in 1878, Bulgaria adopted its current flag formation. The flag was based on the Pan-Slavic and Russian flag colours of white, blue and red, except with the colour green instead of blue. The Bulgarian coat of arms was added to the flag in 1947; however, was removed in 1990 following the collapse of the country's communist regime.
The flag's ratio is 3:5.
